How the app works
Mountoon Learn offers one visit a day. A visit is about three minutes: one letter with Ollie the owl, or one number with Momo the bear. Your child touches the screen — the letter glows, the stars join up into its shape, the fireflies count themselves — and every page carries one short line under “Yours to say” for you to read aloud. When the visit ends, the host rests until tomorrow. There is no timer, no score, no streak and no “one more”.
What is inside
Thirty-seven visits: every uppercase letter from A to Z, and every number from 0 to 10. Each letter visit shows the letter, draws its shape star by star, names a thing that starts with it, and finds it beside one other letter. Each number visit shows the numeral, draws it, and counts real things up to it. Lowercase letters and tracing are not in this version. The Parent tab also has a Sounds guide, one row per letter, for saying “mmm” rather than “em”.
There are no wrong answers
Nothing in a visit can be got wrong, by design. A touch either lights something up or does nothing at all — there is no red, no buzzer, no “try again” and no praise either. If your child taps somewhere quiet and nothing happens, the app is working as intended. After a few seconds the thing to touch glows softly on its own.
Does it collect anything about my child?
No. There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics, no tracking and no third-party code of any kind, and nothing your child does leaves the device. The details are on the privacy policy. When you write to us, please don't include photos or details of your child — we never need them.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Every visit, every picture and every spoken word is inside the app, so a plane, a car or a waiting room with no signal changes nothing. The one exception is the weekly plan, which checks in with the App Store around each renewal — see below.
What is included, and what costs money
Seven visits — the letters M, S, A, T and the numbers 1, 2, 3 — are open to every family, always, with or without a purchase. The other thirty open in one of two ways: the lifetime unlock, or the weekly plan. Both open the same thirty visits and both work with Family Sharing. The App Store shows the current price in your own currency on the purchase sheet, before you confirm anything.
The purchase screen lives in the app behind the grown-ups gate: Parent tab, answer the sum, then Open every letter and number. Your child never meets it. A letter you have not bought answers a touch by glowing and saying its own name — no padlock, no price, no “ask a grown-up”.
I was charged after the first week
This is the commonest question, and it is almost always the weekly plan doing what it says. The weekly plan is an auto-renewing subscription: it renews every week, and each week is charged at the regular weekly price until you cancel it. If your first week was offered at a lower introductory price, that lower price applies to the first week only — every week after it is the regular weekly price. Apple shows both prices on the purchase sheet before you confirm, and emails you a receipt for each charge.
To stop any further charges, cancel the plan (next section). If you want the last charge back, that is Apple's to give: reportaproblem.apple.com. Please note that a refund does not cancel the plan — cancel it as well, or it renews again next week.
How do I cancel the weekly plan?
On your iPhone or iPad, open Settings ▸ your name ▸ Subscriptions, tap the Mountoon Learn plan, then Cancel Subscription. The same Apple screen opens from inside the app: Parent tab, answer the grown-ups sum, then Manage subscription.
Cancel at least a day before the renewal date to avoid the next charge. Every letter and number stays open until the end of the week you have already paid for, and nothing on the device is deleted: progress, the age band and your switches all stay. Deleting the app does not cancel the plan.
What happens when the weekly plan ends?
M, S, A, T and 1, 2, 3 stay open, exactly as before. The other thirty close again, and open once more if you come back. Nothing your child has done is lost.
I bought the lifetime unlock and it is not there
Open the Parent tab, answer the grown-ups sum, and tap Restore purchases. This works for the lifetime unlock and for the weekly plan. Two things have to be true: the device is signed in to the App Store with the Apple Account that made the purchase, and it is online for a moment.
Someone else in my family bought it
Both purchases are family shareable. For the lifetime unlock, the family organizer needs Purchase Sharing switched on. For the weekly plan, the person who subscribed needs Share with Family switched on in Settings ▸ their name ▸ Subscriptions. Then use Restore purchases on your device. A newly added family member can take up to a day to see shared purchases.
It says “Waiting for approval”
Your family uses Ask to Buy. As soon as the organizer approves the request, every letter and number opens by itself — there is no need to buy again. If the request was declined or has expired, simply choose an option again.
Refunds
All App Store refunds, for the lifetime unlock and for the weekly plan, are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot see or change a purchase. A refund does not cancel a running plan; cancel it separately.
How do I turn the voice off?
Open the Parent tab, answer the grown-ups sum, and switch off “Mountoon says the word”. The voice says one word at a time — the letter, the number, or the thing your child touched — and with it off the app is as quiet as it was before. It also follows your device's silent switch, so a silenced iPhone stays silent, and with VoiceOver running the app says nothing at all so that the two voices never talk across each other. The quiet chimes and the touch feedback have their own switches in the same place.
Is there a way to stop my child leaving the app?
Yes — Apple's Guided Access. Open Settings ▸ Accessibility ▸ Guided Access, switch it on and set a passcode. Then open a visit and triple-click the side button (the home button on older devices). Triple-click again and enter your passcode to leave.
The page moves on by itself
That is “Turn pages for me”, in the Parent tab. When a page is finished, the visit drifts on after a calm pause, so a small child reaches the ending without having to find the arrow. It starts switched on for ages 2 and 3, and you can switch it either way. A page never turns while your child is still touching it, and the arrow always works.
Which devices?
iPhone and iPad with iOS 17 or later. iPhone is portrait; iPad works in portrait and landscape. One app runs on both.

Mountoon is one person, in India. Write to hello@mountoon.com and you will get a reply, usually within two days — sooner if it is about a charge. Tell us what device you are on and what you saw; there is nothing to look up at our end, because the app keeps no record of you anywhere.
